Searching for my personal inspiration in my past work.

Currently I am busy busy busy! I just turned 21 and I feel like my social life might be changing, which is exciting! I want to take that excitement and pull my inner creator out again. I'm stuck though. I have thoughts and designs but the time I just do not have. I need to change something. I know exactly what that is too.

ANYWHO!
I made this dress in December of 2011.
My inspiration was from a little 60s mod dress I found at an antique store in Iowa.
This pattern was too adorable to not play with! I have been sketching a small collection but I really need to work on my sewing. SO hopefully that will be something I can achieve before the year is up.
This is Leslie by the way! A super sweetie and a beautiful little soul!

ps. These pictures are terribly shot, my bad hahaha I still have much to learn

Much Love,
Vanessa

BOW

Revisiting this little idea I had. I've been sketching clothes again and I actually want to try to go through with one of my ideas fully again!
Lots of work and school right now. Wish I could post more! I'll do an art work post soon of what I've been doing in my 2d and 3d design classes.

Ps: GIRL POWER

Much Love,
Vanessa

Hey, Life gets busy sometimes!

Hello! Long time no blog! Apologies to all! I have recently got a place in Logan square with my boyfriend and I just started class at northeastern illinois university. Life is pretty great right now, It's crazy how scatter brained I get when I don't have a schedule. I was made to make lists and keep moving! I also got a job at Steve Madden in Bucktown and I am gaining some retail experience. I've been there for a little over a month now and I can feel myself improving so that always feels nice. The only issue I am having is that i'd like my income to be like tripple what I am making right now so I am looking to go back to serving. Chicago show me some love and your money $$$

ART WISE! I shot this awesome all Female art showcase called Vagina the Third hosted by The Good Night Ladies. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the two night show!

I also plan to post photos of the projects I am doing in my 3d and 2d design classes! a lot of fun and i am excited to share!

I have been plotting some new projects so I hope I get some time to start getting back into my creative grind and start producing work for all to see

MUCH LOVE

Took a Trip Back to the 70s in Alex's 71 Buick Riviera

It was very hot but Alex and I ventured out to the crop fields of Plainfield for a little country 70s shoot in her 71 Buick Riviera! We both share a love for vintage so this shoot was really fun! Both of the dresses and the romper I picked up at Broken Spokes Antique Mall in Clintom, IA. All from the 70s!

It's Been Too Long.

I'll start where I left off like a month ago I guess! SO Vintage Heaven went really well for it being my first time vending. I made a profit and learned a lot for the next time I vend there in September! Since my last post I have enrolled in classes at Northeastern Illinois University as an art major. Also Eric and I found an apartment in Logan Square! Move in is July 1st! I can not explain how excited and ready I am for this chapter of my life to blossom and for me to start getting to work on my Art like 100% of the time. As the month of June drags along I am dreaming of the day I feel like I can call Chicago my home. I have lot of packing and Job hunting to tend to! Hopefully I won't be unemployed too long! I have never been so excited to get back on a schedule and get back into school. This summer should be really good.

PS! These shots of Jasmine Zepeda are from our vintage shoot but this one was more of a spontaneous look! Just having fun.

Once I am settled in my new place I'll hopefully be doing a lot more shoots! Thanks again to all those who take the time out of their day to take a peek at my work and support me as an young artist. Much Love and Respect.

Vintage Pieces Up For Grabs This Saturday! Come See Me!

Hello There!
I am proud to say I have been keeping up with my short term goals and I will be a vendor at the Vintage Heaven Sale!!!

This Saturday MAY 4th!
 12pm-6pm
1550 N Milwaukee Ave, 2nd Floor
 Chicago, IL 60622

In case you were wondering not only will I have all my jewelry from my storenvy available for purchase but I will have a few purses, hats, and scarves! I also will have a whole rack of funky retro pieces! Including these two dresses Jasmine is modeling above! I'll have a few mens pieces too. This is a pretty big deal for me and hopefully I will turn a profit for all of my hard work. This is my first time vending and I think I am very prepared. My most expensive piece goes for only $35 so I think my prices are very fair. Especially for unique vintage pieces that you will not see anyone else wearing!
If you're in Chicago on Saturday you should stop by! There will be multiple vendors and it's in a gallery space so there will also be art to view. I really hope I see some familiar faces but i am also looking forward to meeting new people who share the same interests as me!

Ps. I think I'll have an apartment soon! I am ready to officially start city living!

Off Drauden

I honestly believe that thrifting is mostly luck but you do have to be spontaneous with your choosing. I always think, this isn't going to be here next time so I might as well just get it. It's only $5.
I thrifted this dress and matched it with a WW2 jacket I found at Broken Spokes Antique Mall in Clinton, IA. I  also found the purse and hat there! All at different visits. I love a good 40s vibe. I think more females should look back on women's fashion and see how flattering some of the dresses were. It's a shame that it's barely something you see these days.
Having my boyfriend help me out with these quick shoots is the best. It takes longer to sit down and do a blog post than to shoot the outfit, so hopefully I can have a new post once a week.
